UW-GU Health Partnership fosters statewide research opportunities

Over the summer, four GU students spent eight weeks working in biomedical research labs alongside UW School of Medicine (UWSOM) principal investigators, graduate students and postdocs as part of the Health Partnership’s collaborative summer research program. Meanwhile, in Spokane, Gonzaga’s Department of Human Physiology teamed with the UWSOM in a mobility study of Parkinson’s patients.

More than 400 friends, family and faculty members gathered to celebrate UWSOM students’ entrance into the medical profession. The latest cohort of physician assistant students in UW's MEDEX Northwest program in Spokane also celebrated their white coat ceremony.

Next Generation Medicine Lecture: How Close are We to a Breast Cancer Vaccine?

UW School of Medicine physician-scientist Nora Disis, MD, will return to Spokane with an update on her research to develop a breast cancer vaccine that teaches the body’s immune system to recognize and destroy breast cancer cells. Dr. Disis, who has devoted her career to learning how the body fights cancer and to developing a breast cancer vaccine, believes they will become part of the standard of care for cancer treatment within the next decade.
