December has arrived, and students are officially in the final stretch of fall quarter — balancing finals, projects, travel plans and the excitement of winter break. A quick message of encouragement from you can help them power through these next few weeks.

Ask about how they prepared and their process, rather than grades — you might be surprised about what you hear.

• Dec. 13–Jan. 4: Winter Break
• Dec. 17: Grades posted
• Jan. 5: Winter Quarter begins
• Jan. 12: UW Alert Email/Text Testing Drill

• Break tasks into manageable steps
• Use campus resources: CLUE, Academic Advising, Writing Center, Peer Wellness
• Rest and hydration help more than all-nighters
• Delayed text responses = probably studying

Grades may bring celebration, relief or disappointment. Remind your student:

• One quarter does not define their UW journey
• Advisors and instructors can help with follow-up questions
• Winter Quarter is a fresh start

Residence halls remain open during Winter Break, though dining hours shift based on location. Important note: When students visit the dining hours website, the page automatically opens to the By George location — which currently appears as closed. Many students assume this applies to all dining locations.

Please encourage your Husky to use the navigation menu to check each dining location individually. Most cafés remain open with modified dining hours.

We also have shared with our HFS teams the issues that our students and families have had with adjusting their Dining Levels with the new Star Rez portal.

UW student governments are proposing a new $125 annual health fee to stabilize funding for key student health and wellness services.

To gauge interest, student government is asking students to complete a quick survey.

Over Winter Break, please encourage your Husky to take a few minutes to:

• Learn about the proposed fee
• Complete the 3-minute student survey

Their input will help shape the future of UW’s student health and well-being resources.

For families of seniors beginning to plan ahead, hotel blocks fill quickly! Reply to this email with:

• Your Husky’s full name
• Their major/department

Share your dates: Are you going to graduation in Husky vs Departmental Ceremonies

We’ll add you to our Commencement Hotel Interest List for neighborhood hotels: Fairmont Olympic, Graduate Seattle, Stay Pineapple and Courtyard Marriott reservation teams to let them know your interest.
