Free April 9 community lecture to focus on traumatic brain injuries
The spring community lecture in the Next Generation Medicine series will feature Christine Mac Donald, Ph.D., for a discussion about the link between mental health, PTSD and traumatic brain injury.

An associate professor of neurological surgery and an expert in neuroimaging and traumatic brain injury, Mac Donald will focus on prediction, diagnosis and therapies, as well as the long-term outcomes for individuals who have experienced these injuries.

Hosted by the UW School of Medicine — Gonzaga University Regional Health Partnership, the event will take place at the Hemmingson Center on the Gonzaga Campus. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the lecture begins at 6:30. This event is free and open to the public — register at uwmedicine.org/nextgenmed.

High school students explore health-related careers via Business AfterSchool
Area high school students had a chance to see what it was like to take blood pressure, what ultrasound does and other topics related to medicine and health care during a February 11 event with UW School of Medicine students.

Each year, Greater Spokane Inc.’s Business AfterSchool program works with community groups and businesses to showcase future job opportunities and careers for middle and high school students in a workshop setting. The program is sponsored in part by the UW School of Medicine — Gonzaga University Regional Health Partnership and gave students interested in a career in medicine or the health care field a chance to learn alongside the medical students whose footsteps they may someday follow.
